Frequently Asked Questions
Have a question?
We'd love to hear from you!
Why don't we offer subscription meal plans?
Simply put, we find subscriptions limiting. Our goal is provide all of our clients with healthy, nutritious and interesting food that fit their dietary needs. Everyone is different when it comes to their path to health and what works for them and their lifestyle. We are aware of current food choices and habits: we aim to make it easy to add probiotics, fermented foods, organic food, as well as keto and vegan friendly options to you.
With the ease of ordering whatever you desire off our site, you are not locked into a particular diet (let's be real, most people are trying out keto or carnivore diet not to mention if you start fasting...), delivery (who knows what you are going to be doing next Wednesday?), or price point. We encourage people to travel and see Colombia, so when the weekend finca trip pops up, you aren't committed to a meal plan that leads to food waste or frustration that you just wasted a couple hundred COP.
We de offer a simple weekly plan and starter pack, with the ability to add more items to your cart, for those that just want something easy and convenient.
What is the best way to re-heat the meals.
If you have a microwave, you should get rid of it. As J-Law said in American Hustle, "the fuckin' science oven. I read that it takes all of the nutrition out of our food!" We do not recommend re-heating in a microwave, especially not in the aluminum container.
We recommend re-heating on the stove top, or for casserole style dishes like Shepherd's Pie, Lasagna, or anything with the word 'roasted', the oven is a great option.
For our smoked wings, get a cast iron as hot as you can and sear them off.
Our burgers are great grilled or seared on the stove top.
The soups can easily be reheated on the stove top (best to let it defrost first).
If you have questions, just ask us, there is no stupid question (except maybe if you ask us for microwave instructions).
How long do the meals last?
The realistic answer is: eat as soon as possible. Why? Because food is best fresh, so the quicker your eat your meal, the more nutrition it offers (this is for all food, not just Verve's).
Our meals will keep for five days and many of them freeze well, so should you want to save a meal for a future date, or you ordered five and are sick of Beef Bourguinon, go ahead and stick them in the freezer, or ask us about freezing, we are happy to help.
Our salads will keep for a week: the mixed greens/kale are organic, washed twice, and spun dry: if properly stored, you won't have any problems holding onto a salad for a week.
Also, your nose is your best guide (it has evolved with us from the beginning) you won't eat anything rotten (unless you have COVID and can't smell).
Why do we only offer two deliveries to the city?
We work from our rural location on Llanogrande. Why Riongero? We have a micro organic farm, and work with local farmers to ensure we have the best ingredients. While we are limited by distance, being outside the city allows for a better fermentation climate, less pollution (which guarantees better vegetables and more stable yeast for our wild fermentation), and hopefully more future country BBQ events.
We now have a location in Masaya: Cl. 8 ##43A-63, Medellín, Antioquia. This Bodega carries many of our products giving you another easy option for buying our goods.
What kinds of oils do we use? Do we offer low fat meals?
Oil is a key ingredient, when we aren't using butter, (we do not use margarine). We use olive, coconut, peanut, sesame, and sunflower oil. We do not use soybean, cottonseed, canola, grapeseed or corn oil. If you have an allergy, please let us know, we don't want you having an attack. That goes for all allergies, we do use nuts and seeds, ask if you are worried.
Low fat meals: we do not go crazy when it comes to our fat content, we use what is necessary and find ways to make our food flavorful and healthy. We are not your classic french restaurant. Our vegetarian meals are more often than not vegan. We do offer a few low-fat options such as our fat free Japanese-Ginger dressing, all of our fermented foods and mixed greens, and our dips only use olive oil and it is sparingly.
Why can't I pay with foreign currency?
Truthfully, we would love your dollars. However, we run a business in COP, which means we need COP. We have been tried with at least one client to use every service, "we can use Transferwise, Remitly, Paypal, Venmo, Google Pay, Rappi Pay..." you name it, we have tried it. What happens is:
1) Our bank says no.
2) We accept the money in a foreign account, then pay fees converting it and taking bringing it into the country.
3) Our accountant gets mad and it messes up our books.
We all look forward to when it is simpler to use our foreign currency in Colombia, but for now we want to keep things simple: we accept COP, in bank transfers or cash (we like cash more).
